01.08. 2007 The beginning

NPP Moo Gaz Homepage

Tepe Nautilus manager Nihat Sandikicoglu asked NPP to collaborate in the Istanbul Cow Parade. We've successfully cooperated with Nihat in in the past and at the time of typing, we are planning to produce 3 painted cows:
1) Gaza Gelen Inek: Möö Gaz / Moo Gas i.e. fart power cow - highlighting renewable energy
2) Cocukların Inegi - a Children's painted-hands cow; a chance for kids to demand a stop to damaging their future
3) Dalgic Inek: Diver Cow - underwater - highlighting sea pollution

I went with Nihat to order paint and look for model fish, model sea plants and other materials and necessities for the Cow Parade project. This is Nihat aboard a boat to cross the Halic/Golden Horn for 1TL each. Approx = £0.39
The view from the back of the boat crossing the Golden Horn and looking toward Eminonu and Tahtakale.

Monday 06 August 2007 - at Tepe Nautilus shopping mall. 2 of the fibre-glass cows are placed on the shopping mall floor and await only artist and paint. The 3rd cow is coming in the next couple of days.

Above is Gonca, a teacher from Samsun with her husband Omer. I told her we'd put put her photo on the NPP blog to show her students; so here's saying hello to all the kids in the class at Samsun. The view while sitting on the Kadikoy-Karakoy ferry. Another lovely evening and if you must commute to and from work, it could be worse then a ferry between Asia and Europe in the summer.

Tuesday 07 August 2007 - Gokce comes along to film farmer Ned and his the cows as we ponder where to start...

An over view of the scene...Gokce looks bored.

Coffee break; though some might argue Starbucks does not actually constitute a real coffee, if Starbucks would like to sponsor us, we'll be happy to discuss it with them. I've happily consumed their long milky coffees many times; though I can't fathom out what their logo is all about.
It is amazing that in a country like Turkey which has such a strong coffee culture, it is a foreign brand that steps in to lead the market.

The women below apparently stated she could see no artistic merit in the work before her. I didn't understand and had to be later informed by Gokce's translation. Maybe she had a point or maybe she was talking moo gaz. Good job I didn't understand otherwise a curt answer could have ensued. If she's reading this - we've only just started canim!

Gokce thought this was funny - Ned's head apparently up a cow's bottom...

I work on the underwater fish-cow. The colouring is based on the Clown Fish which can be seen swimming around one of the Tepe Nautilus fish tanks. There are also sharks and an octopus. Seriously, go see for yourself.

The journey back to Europe aboard the ferry - after a long day. Must do some Turkish homework.
